10 ERRORI DI VIAGGIO CHE PUOI EVITARE!!
I’ve been travelling quite a lot, since I was a kid and of course I’ve made a few mistakes myself. That’s why I thought to give you guys this lists of travel mistakes you should try and avoid!
PS: there is a “generous” surprire at the end 😀
1)PACKING TOO MUCH
Ok I must admit that I partially still do this mistake, but I’m getting better! Packing too much should be avoided, you don’t actually need all that stuff. Try and see what you can wear more than once, plan what to wear, don’t bring several pair of shoes (ehm….) you definitely will not need all of them ! And keep in mind that you are of course goind to buy stuff on vacation, leave space in your lagguage for the new stuff! Plus you have to carry those heavy bags. Nope, it’s a no-no. Don’t over pack !
2)OVER SCHEDULING
I know that you’ve worked so hard all year long and now you want to do just about anything during your vacation, but trying to fit everything in a few days is, sometimes, a big mistake. You might end up dedicating very little time to important things to do or fab places to visit, you are going to get tired and stressed because have tried to do more that what supposed to. Plan ahead and pick just a few thing to do and see, the ones that really inspire you, the ones you really want to see, and tryly enjoy them.
3)SHORT CONNECTIONS
When booking your flights, with connesctions, remember that very often you might be asked to go through customs again and go through a second line of secutity. This takes time, so make sure that you have an adeguate amount of time, otherwise you might miss the connection flight! Also don’t forget that your first flight could be be late, and yes, again, you might miss the connection. Although in these cases the airline usually transfer you on the next availble flight for free because, of course, it is not your fauld. Yes, it did happened to me !
4)TRANSPORTATION COST TO GET TO YOUR ACCOMODATION
When booking a flight thinking that you are save money by flying into a cheap airport without check where the airport actually is… is a big mistake. Sometimes you can save money on your flight but end up paying a lot of money in transportation from and to the airport instead! What time does the flight arrives at destination? Is public service still running at that time of the night? Consider all these things when booking your flight!
5)NOT CALLING YOUR BANK
Yes your credit/debit card usually works in any ATM machine in the world, but please give a call to your bank before leaving and check with them how much you are going to be charged for each withdraw and, very important, tell your bank that you are going to use your card abroad, sometimes in fact, the card is kind of “locked” for security reasons and need to be unlocked. They might also block the card for security reasons if it shows that is being used abroad, let them know that it is you the one that uses the card!
….and yes the mistakes to avoid are actually 10 , cos I’m so generous!
6)DONT CARRY A LOT OF CASH WITH YOU
ATM are everywhere, dont carry huge amount of money on you, it can be dangerous and if you get robbed you might end up with no money at all!
7)AVOID TOURIST RESTAURANTS
I think I have mentioned this in several posts here on my blog, especially when i write about London, but of course this applies to every major city in the world. This kind of restaurant tend to be expensive and low quality. Of course not all of them fall into this descroption, but may do.
8)NOT TO TRY LOCAL FOOD AND SEARCH FOR “YOUR FOOD”
Please! Don’t be narrow minded! Try local food, you might not like it, thats true, but at least try it. There are amazing dishes in every culture. Maybe you are used to pizza and pasta, of course you are not going to get teh ebst pizza ever on vaction abrod, because that is not a typical dish there, it’s a no-brainer, really, so please don’t complain afterwards! Try the local food, they know how to propeperly make it and you will be surprised on how many delicious dished you can try all around the world!
9)NOT HAVING A PRINT COPY OF YOUR RESERVATION
Don’t rely too much on your phone or tablet, print out a copy of your hotel and flight reservations. Your phone battery might die exactly when you need it at the airport, or just before checkin in into your hotel. Keep a hard copy of all your reservations with you. You might also read this post “TRAVEL ..:” for more info on this subject!
10)CHECK PASSPORT EXPIRATION DATE
Some Countries require your Passport to have a 6-months validity in order to let you in. Check if your passport is about to expire and if it has at least 6-months validity on it, if it doesn’t, apply for a new one, sometimes you might get an extention.
Is there something in particular that you’d like to suggest?
Please let me know!
