Pane Naan – Il buonissimo pane arabo!in italiano

Believe me, this is one of the easiest recipe you’ll ever find 🙂

Naan” means bread in Persian, and gets baked in a clay oven. Sometimes we get put off by the fact that you need a “special oven” to make naan bread, but it is also true that we can try and make something as similar to naan bread as possible.

While living in Egypt, I once had the chance to spend a night in the desert and saw how they make a similar bread, cooked on a very hot flat stone. I’m not about to tell you that you need a hot flat stone slab into your kitchen, a nice and very hot pan will do the job ! 🙂

INGREDIENTS

for about 8 pieces of Naan Bread

  • 200ml of warm water
  • 4g of active yeast
  • 500g of flour
  • 1 – ½ of salt
  • olive oil – a few tablespoons

METHOD

  1. In a very large bowl put the warm water and the yeast, let rest for 5 minutes
  2. then add the flour and the salt
  3. Mix well and then start kneading, by hands
  4. Untill you get a nice firm dough
  5. Place the dough into a oiled bowl and let it raise for 30 minutes.
  6. When time has passed, place the dough onto a floured surface
  7. cut it into 8 parts and make 8 small “balls” out of them
  8. Roll out each piece with a rolling pin, must be about 1cm thick
  9. Lay each flatten dough piece on a very hot pan
  10. Cook for 4 minutes then flip over
  11. Keep cooking and flipping each Naan for about 10 minutes.
  12. Brush with olive oil when they are done

Simple as that. Of course this is teh easy recipe, but the result is absolutely delicious!
